Amalfi Coast

Photos from along the Amalfi Coast. Mostly the towns of Positano and Amalfi. Colonized (posibly by refugees from Paestum) around 400 CE, the Costiera Amalfitana was a coastal refuge from the barbarian pluderers of the empire. Between the fall of the Roman Empire and the late middle ages, the Amalfi Republic was a maritime power and vassel, then trading partner with the Byzantine Empire. Read more about the Amalfi Republic
